Life in Games Roadshow

This coming Saturday, January 5, will be the first time that lifeingames.com will be engaging in a little community outreach to spread the love of games!  With the help of my old friend Rick Harvey, I have had the good fortune to come into contact with a wonderful lady named Andrea Callahan.  Andrea, a self-confessed “Habitual gamer”, has joined forces with the Southport, Indiana Public Library to organize a “family game time” from 2pm-4pm on the first Saturday of every month.  Andrea expressed some interest in my participating, and I eagerly accepted as I always look for ways to grow the ranks of avid gamers.  We hope to create an environment that is fun, safe, educational, and free of charge for families dip their toe into the wonderful world of our hobby!

There will be a number of games on site that are family friendly, easy to learn, and that are quick to play.  I will be bringing some games from my personal collection so that I can teach them very quickly and maximize the amount of time that everyone can spend playing games rather than learning them.  While these games will have family appeal, they are all games that I enjoy playing and I will personally vouch for their gamer cred.

I am looking forward to an exciting afternoon of teaching and playing games with any and all players who join us.  It is my hope, that I will be able to aid Andrea and the Library in exposing more people to the positive hobby of playing games.  Perhaps the combination of our efforts will result in increased attendance and a larger amount of time for future events!  It would be great to see any of my Indy based friends who are able, stop by this Saturday for some quality gaming time!

I am not exactly sure how much space we will have at our disposal, or how much will be allotted for me to set up my games that I will be bringing, but the list that I intend to have with me includes: 7 Wonders, Ascension, Backgammon, Carcassonne, Chess, Citadels, Forbidden Island, Go, Lascaux, Modern Art, Qwirkle, RoboRally, Seasons, Scotland Yard, Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, Wits and Wagers, and Zoolorretto. I will talk to Andrea and the librarian once I get there about which games and how many they would like me to set up.
